PARADISE ON EARTH

This house, built by hippies in the sixties in a very remote and panoramic location on the island of Ios, later became the residence of a couple of artists who for years led a Spartan life there. They had no connection to public services and no road to get there; the house was accessible only by boat or by foot. When the current owners bought it as a summer residence in 2002, they decided to build a road to reach it by car but to keep everything else as it was. Soon, however, they felt the need to add some amenities. The supply of fresh water and the installation of solar panels changed their life; little by little the house was transformed into a very cozy and comfortable place, managing to keep that simple character which is the real charm of this property! Our involvement in this project is a modest volumetric expansion and redistribution of spaces. We have improved the use of the outdoor area in front of the house by creating a wall that serves as a windbreak and providing some shady area with the help of pergolas. We’ve added two double bedrooms; one within the increase in volume permitted by the law and one by converting the old cistern for the collection of rainwater. We also added two bathrooms, one outdoor shower and a barbecue area. Today, the house comfortably accommodates up to 13 people; comfort and privileged location make it heaven on earth!
